Ceramic Centering Pins for Welding

"The welding centering pins made of Cerazur ceramic have a 40x longer service life compared to hardened metal," said a company spokesperson.

The DOCERAM range also includes complete electrodes for automated welding lines.

DOCERAM has expanded its Cerazur range of centering pins made of blue high-performance ceramic. "The welding centering pins made of Cerazur ceramic have a 40x longer service life compared to hardened metal," said a company spokesperson.

The first reason for the extended service life of the ceramic centering pins is due to the extreme durability and impact strength of high-performance ceramic. "With the very short cycle times of automated production lines, such as car body assembly, even hardened metal centering pins quickly become deformed and worn," said the spokesperson. "Components made of Cerazur, a yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide, stay geometrically stable even when undergoing extreme mechanical stress."

The second advantage of ceramic is that welding spatters do not stick to it. This avoids interrupted production because of a defective weld caused by the build-up of material. "This means that when Cerazur centering pins are used in the manufacturing line, positioning accuracy is guaranteed for long periods," said the spokesperson.

"Because of this, it is possible to obtain exactly reproducible welding," continued the spokesperson. "In automated short-cycle industries, such as car body manufacturing, this advantage outweighs the additional cost of high-performance ceramic. This applies not only to welding lines, but also to other types of assembly, such as flanging and clinching."

DOCERAM also offers complete welding electrodes consisting of a base electrode, a screwed-on change electrode and a compressed-air controlled centering pin made of ceramic. These complete electrodes have a modular construction, allowing them to be adapted to almost any kind of equipment, and their plug & play design allows them to be quickly installed.
