Sandvik Coromant will focus on demonstrating new and specialized milling concepts at the Wichita Industrial & Tool show. One of the highlights will be the new CoroMill 745, a double-sided, multi-edge milling concept with positive cutting action that offers high productivity and low cost per edge. With its tilted insert positioning system and sharp cutting edges, this milling cutter offers a light cutting action at low power consumption.
Another focus is the RAL90 cutter, a tool for machining aerospace components made of aluminum and aluminum alloys. This milling concept for machining operations on high-speed spindles has a high-strength tempered base body that increases tool flexural stiffness and natural frequency. Due to its high-speed stability, RAL90 allows manufacturers of challenging aero structure components made of aluminum copper, aluminum silicon, aluminum magnesium, aluminum zinc and aluminum lithium alloys to achieve enhanced metal removal rates.
CoroMill Plura HD and CoroMill 390 with 07 size inserts are two end mill concepts being showcased in Wichita. CoroMill Plura HD is a solid roughing end mill for shoulder milling, full slot milling, ramping and helical interpolation in steel and stainless steel. It can also be used with cast iron and heat-resistant materials. The tools are designed to provide secure and reliable machining in a wide range of cutting parameters. The CoroMill 390 with size 07 inserts is a versatile cutter that is designed for shoulder milling, deep shoulder milling, edging, linear and helical ramping, plunge milling, slot milling and face milling. "From roughing to finishing, it offers reliability, precision and productivity," said a company spokesperson. Suitable for all machine types, the CoroMill 390 with size 07 inserts is engineered for mixed production and can be used with different materials and applications. General engineering shops, as well as specialized business segments, such as automotive and oil and gas component manufacturers, can benefit from its universal capabilities.
For longitudinal and face turning, Sandvik Coromant will present the CoroTurn 300 for higher component quality, increased handling efficiency and longer tool life in steel turning operations. Available immediately, the CoroTurn 300 features stable insert clamping, as well as eight-edged inserts for the high chip control, tool life and surface finish.
Stable insert clamping for the CoroTurn 300 is made possible with the patented iLock interface. This system can securely lock the insert in place to prevent cutting forces from affecting the tool position. iLock provides tool accuracy within ±0.05 mm (.002"), giving the operator indexing repeatability for a better surface finish and increased tool life.
The eight-edged inserts for the CoroTurn 300 are available in grades GC4325 and GC4315 featuring Inveio coating, a uni-directional crystal orientation for high wear resistance and long tool life. The insert design has enhanced chip breaking capabilities and less carbide per edge, which reduces the impact on the environment with less material to waste or recycle.
Another way the CoroTurn 300 offers chip breaking capabilities is through high-precision (HP) over and under coolant. Coolant from above controls the chip breaking for secure machining while under coolant controls the temperature for long and predictable tool life. Other features of the tool are the Coromant Capto interface, in a variety of sizes, and the Quick Start (QS) shanks which enable quick tool changes and easy coolant connections for maximized production time.
