Heavy-Duty Walk-In Batch Ovens for Aircraft Manufacturer
September 1, 2016
Wisconsin Oven Corporation announced the shipment of two natural gas fired ultimate duty walk-in batch ovens to an aerospace manufacturer for composite curing of aircrafts. The customer required a compact footprint for the equipment to maximize use of their available floor space. These two batch ovens were designed for side-by-side installation to minimize footprint and use of facility floor space.
The walk-in batch ovens have a maximum operating temperature of 500 °F and a work chamber of 10'W x 35'L x 10'H. "The composite curing ovens feature guaranteed temperature uniformity of +/-5 °F at 120 °F and 210 °F which was verified through a nine point profile test prior to shipment," said a company spokesperson. The recirculation systems utilize combination airflow, which provides both horizontal and vertical upward airflow to maximize heating rates and temperature uniformity of the product. The batch ovens are equipped with two 20,000 CFM at 15 HP belt-driven blowers. Supply air is delivered through fully adjustable boxed ducts and side-mounted along the length on each side of the work chambers.
"This customer needed the production capacity of two ovens but did not have a lot of floor space to spare. Our engineering team designed a space saving solution in which the ovens could be installed side by side to minimize the floor area used," said Gene Vetter, Senior Applications Engineer at Wisconsin Oven.
Unique features of these composite curing ovens include:
- ±5 °F temperature uniformity
- Direct gas fired heating system
- Thermocouple jack panels for temperature monitoring
- Vacuum ports
- Multi-point digital recorder
- Turnkey installation
- Industrial burner rated at 1,200,000 BTU.
"The customer added a complete turn-key installation service for the ovens," said a company spokesperson. "This included six consecutive days of installation along with start-up and training at their facility by two of our factory trained technicians for each composite curing oven. Items included in a turnkey installation are reassembly and rewiring of all the components removed for shipping, debugging and start-up of the equipment, as well as uniformity testing. Wisconsin Oven's complete turn-key installation takes care of the entire installation from start to finish.
"These walk-in batch ovens were fully factory tested and adjusted prior to shipment to help reduce installation and start-up times. A 150-point Quality Assurance checklist was completed to ensure the equipment met all Wisconsin Oven quality standards. The industrial batch ovens are backed by Wisconsin Oven's 5-year warranty. This warranty covers all materials for all components (less wear items)."
