PVD Coating for Metalforming Applications
September 1, 2016
Ionbond 90 Concept is a PVD coating designed to provide superior performance in a wide variety of metalforming applications, especially those such as cold forming applications.
"The combination of high hardness, low coefficient of friction and excellent resistance to cracking under mechanical fatigue conditions enables Ionbond 90 Concept to provide enhanced performance," said a company spokesperson. It is a viable alternative to TiN, TiCN, TiAIN, CrN, TiCrN, CVD or TD coatings.
Ionbond 90 Concept is designed for use in piercing and forming of AHSS and austenitic stainless steel alloys, cold forgings, fineblanking power metal compaction and forming of low carbon steel alloys with thicknesses greater than 2 mm.
The coating is generally deposited between 400-500 °C. These processing temperatures require tool materials to be tempered at higher temperatures in order to avoid softening or dimensional changes. It can be combined with ion or low pressure nitriding in applications requiring added mechanical support.
The typical thickness of the coating is 6-8µm using a deposition process of PVD Arc. The color is silver/grey.
