Mid-Atlantic Machinery, Southern States Machinery Partner with Universal Robots

Machine tool distributors Mid-Atlantic Machinery (MAM) and Southern States (SSM) have announced their partnership with Universal Robots (UR). Universal Robots is a Danish manufacturer of smaller, flexible industrial collaborative robot arms. The collaborative robots, referred to as cobots, when in conjunction with a human operator are easily integrated into existing production environments.

"As Area Manager for Universal Robots in the East region, I have known both companies for some time and we are thrilled to welcome MAM and SSM as partners. UR has a strong presence in the machine tending application niches and we expect these relationships will further our presence and help all our companies prosper," said Brian Dillman, Area Sales Manager of Universal Robots' Eastern Division.

The variety of models are designed to automate repetitive and dangerous tasks of different payloads. The UR3 would be for smaller projects. The UR5 is suited for low-weight collaborative processes, such as picking, placing and testing, while the UR10 is a larger cobot designed for bigger tasks.

"It is difficult to find technical and skilled expertise in business today," said MAM and SSM President Kevin Kilgallen. "In areas of low unemployment, industry must automate in every aspect of manufacturing, including the latest with cobots in order to compete globally. MAM and SSM are focused on making a difference."

In addition to distributing and integrating the collaborative robots to metal fabricators, MAM and SSM are both Certified System Integrators. This will allow the enhancement and implementation of a variety of applications such as bending, inspection, deburring, hardware insertion, stamping, loading and unloading.

MAM and SSM have been serving manufacturers and fabricators for over 25 and 15 years, respectively.
