New Holemaking and Threading Tools

Allied Machine & Engineering will feature the 4TEX drill, Wohlhaupter NOVITECH vibration damper module and AccuThread T3 thread mill as well as Superion's high precision PCD and solid carbide tools. Also in the spotlight is the newest GEN3SYS XT Pro insert for structural steel and the addition of the 33 mm series to its APX drill line. Allied will also invite attendees to try out ToolMD, the online tool providing direct access to thousands of 2-D and 3-D models.

Allied's new 4TEX drill is suited for making shallow 2xD, 3xD and 4xD holes in the 12 mm - 47 mm (.472" - 1.850") range. "The 4TEX drill's single effective cutting edge provides higher penetration rates than standard twist drills on light duty machines," said a company spokesperson. The center coolant outlet was eliminated to increase the drill's core strength in this design, resulting in improved hole size and straightness. Alternatively, twisted coolant outlets were added to improve hole straightness and penetration rates by enhancing coolant flow and chip evacuation. Insert geometries for standard ISO material categories improve hole quality and penetration rate, while eliminating issues from chips wrapping the tool. 4TEX inserts are four-sided. The drills will be stocked in both imperial and metric shanks with standard fractional diameters, as well as every .5 mm diameter up to 26 mm and every 1 mm up to 47 mm.

Wohlhaupter's NOVITECH vibration dampened intermediate modules increase boring operations productivity, surface quality and process reliability. Inside the patent-pending NOVITECH system, the viscoelastically mounted damper modules reduce vibrations during the machining of diameters ranging from 1.97" - 8.07" (50 mm - 205 mm), up to 10xD. The NOVITECH intermediate modules feature Wohlhaupter's MultiBore system (MVS), making it simple to use with existing Wohlhaupter components, and is compatible with any machine spindle.

The AccuThread T3 thread mill is designed for threading difficult materials. A recent addition to its threading lineup, the T3 is built for machining hardened or hard-to-machine materials such as stainless steel, tool steel and high-temp alloys. It is designed to machine only three threads at a time, which reduces tool pressure.

Provided in both inch-shank and metric-shank options, the AccuThread T3 is made for deeper-than-standard threads, available in 2xD and 3xD. Allied offers this thread mill for UN thread forms with pitches from #1-64 to 9/16"-12 as well as ISO thread forms with pitches from M2x.4 to M12x1.75. Additional diameters are available on request.

Through the acquisition of Superion Inc., its drilling line has expanded to include solid carbide and PCD drills suited for aerospace, automotive, or firearm applications. The solid carbide drills offer a wide diameter range from 3 mm to 20 mm and a depth-to-diameter ratio up to 20xD. Wafer style PCD drills range from 4 mm - 20 mm and can be customized to include multiple steps and a coolant through design.

Allied recently added the 33 mm series to its line of APX drilling products. Specifically designed to allow higher spindle speeds and take advantage of the power curve on modern CNC machines, the APX provides maximum penetration rates on deep hole drilling applications.

"Due to its design, the APX drill provides excellent results in previously unmanageable deep hole and large diameter applications on low horse power machines," said the spokesperson. It is suited for heavy equipment manufacturing applications and is widely used in the oil and gas, wind and other renewable energy markets.

Allied has also added to its material-specific GEN3SYS XT Pro line of inserts. The newest insert is specifically designed for structural steel applications and has an optimized substrate and multilayer coating to withstand heat.

Allied's newly developed ToolMD online utility is free to use and allows direct access to product data as well as 2-D drawings and 3-D models available for download.
