Kurt has introduced its new DoveLock vise, a 5-axis workholding product designed for aggressive machining operations. It provides up to 4,000 lbs. of precision clamping force, holding parts without distorting the workpiece while providing access to five surfaces of the workpiece.
"Designed and built from pre-hardened 4140 steel, the DoveLock vise features proven workholding rigidity. When under high machining pressure, deflection and clamp creep is minimized by the DoveLock unique design. Three features make this possible: the clamping screw is located at the top of the clamping envelope, the moveable jaw slide is retained within the stationary jaw and machined dove tail jaws for added grip," said a company spokesperson.
According to the company, the DoveLock vise features a unique, one-half inch movable jaw stroke designed for fast positioning in the vise jaws. This allows precise raw stock clamping with less material preparation. Another feature is an embedded locating pin that maintains part location accuracy when applying side load pressure.
To elevate parts further off the machine table an optional riser base is available. The riser provides 1.250" of additional elevation and can be stacked in multiples to achieve the desired height.
DoveLock vise specifications are: 2.00" jaw width, maximum jaw opening 1.688", jaw height 0.125", overall stroke .500", vise height 2.500", base height 1.250", base diameter 4.47", weight 8 lbs.
