Part of the all-new series of ANCA FX Linear machines, the FX7 will be demonstrated at EASTEC booth 1152. The FX Linear machine range is designed for lower volume manufacturing, regrinding and full production. According to the company, FX7's best performance and productivity range is for tools up to 4" diameter, maximum length for O.D. grinding 7.8", 9" in length when face grinding and maximum tool weight 44 lbs. Maximum wheel diameter is 8".
"The FX7 Linear is ideal for manufacturing and resharpening," said a company spokesperson. "The more powerful 19 kW wheel spindle provides high levels of speed and productivity to tackle a wide range of tool types and geometries. The FX7 also has high performance servo-drives for quicker machine movements and reduced cycle times. The FX7 offers an automatic headstock as standard and a range of options for high productivity." These options include the following:
- Robot loader with capacity to load up to 840 tools; tool change time approximately 9 seconds
- 6-station wheel changer for auto loading of wheel packs and coolant manifolds; robot wheel change time approximately 12 seconds
- Compact loader
- Laser probe in-process tool measurement
- Auto wheel qualification.
In addition, the new control panel is a large ANCA-designed touchscreen. The ANCA menu and other hard buttons are integrated into the soft panel or as soft touch keys. "The operator interface is clear and easy to use," said the spokesperson.
The latest generation AMD5x control system supports machine operation. The new ANCA CNC Pad operator panel is a full touchscreen. This new design offers the benefits of Windows 8 functionality such as multi touch and zoom. The screen layout is intuitive and is configured to the machine options. A new handheld pendant offers the operator improved access to the machine during set-up.
The FX machines are compact by design but offer large working envelopes. The grinding wheel is positioned on the C-axis centerline and, together with the compact design, reduces the effects of temperature influence on machine elements. "This, coupled with the benefits of the polymer-concrete base, results in a thermally stable and rigid machine," said the spokesperson.
New Motor Design
The FX series uses the ANCA-designed LinX Linear Motors for axis motion in the X and Y axes. The vertical Z-axis uses a preloaded ballscrew to move the grinding head. "Coupled with linear scales, the linear motors provide high levels of machine precision and performance, resulting in superior tool accuracy and surface finish," said the spokesperson. "The linear motors avoid issues with ballscrew wear, loss of preload or rigidity, permit smoother axis motion and eliminate backlash. The benefit to tool grinding results in higher quality."
