3-Dimensional Services Receives Recognition for its Work on Corvette Vehicle

3-Dimensional Services helped develop the transparent plastic fin "spoiler" for the Corvette.

Steve Kelly, Senior Sales Engineer, 3-Dimensional Services, displays the SPE Automotive Innovations Award.

3-Dimensional Services Group, a prototype and low-volume production firm, announced it has received special recognition from the Automotive Division of the Society of Plastic Engineers for the work it has done on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 car.

The recognition was given to the company for its development of a transparent plastic fin "spoiler" for the Corvette. The company not only developed the prototype but also will be producing the part on a volume basis.

The spoiler is the first transparent adjustable fin on a commercial vehicle that allows rear visibility through the fin. Using Sabic Lexan PC/ITR on the transparent section the unique look also improves vehicle handling and control by increasing downforce without impeding or blocking the driver's line of sight through the rear view mirror.

The Corvette project was recognized as a finalist in the body exterior category of the 44th annual SPE Automotive Innovations Awards Gala. The Gala recognizes the best examples of cooperative innovation in the automotive value chain.

"We are humbled and yet extremely proud of our recognition from the SPE. We aim for the highest degree of excellence in both prototype and low-volume production and it is especially rewarding to be recognized by this outstanding organization," said Steve Kelly, Senior Sales Engineer at 3-Dimensional Services.

"The 3-Dimensional Services Group, consisting of 3-Dimensional Services, Urgent Plastic Services, Urgent Design & Manufacturing and 3-Dimensional Services-Europe, builds functional prototype parts and low-volume production parts,? said a company spokesperson.
