3D Scanner and Software System Designed for Accuracy and Ease of Use

3D Systems offers Geomagic Capture, a turn-key 3D scanner and software system designed to bring physical objects into CAD. "Geomagic Capture enhances the product development process," said a company spokesperson. "By starting with existing objects, users can create new projects or alter old ones without the time requirements of designing from scratch."

According to the company, the 3D scanner provides high-fidelity data that goes directly to CAD. Utilizing blue LED technology, the device measures 985,000 points per shot in 0.3 seconds with an accuracy of 0.060-0.118 mm within the field of view.

Each package includes software or plugins that are designed to output a finished CAD model. Geomagic Capture works with SolidWorks and SpaceClaim and connects directly to Siemens NX, Solid Edge, Creo, Pro/Engineer and Inventor via Geomagic Design X software. "While scanning directly into CAD, the user can design highly complex parts faster via one seamless workflow," said the spokesperson. "Geomagic Capture offers an easy-to-use solution that conveniently bridges hardware, software and CAD. Because it is a complete plug-and-play system, users do not need to incorporate multiple products from multiple vendors into their workflow.

"The scanner fits easily on a desk, yet it is rugged enough for the shop floor. No calibration or other set-up is needed."
