Vertical Knee Mill "K" Package
January 1, 2015
Sharp offers manual vertical knee mills. The premium "K" package includes a 3-axis digital readout (DRO), a power feed table, a power draw bar (TMV-K only) and Yasakawa inverter variable speed head. The mills also feature a 3 HP R-8 spindle, super precision spindle bearings and Meehanite castings. Three models are available which feature working surface options of 9" x 42" (Model LMV-K), 9" x 50" (Model LMV-50K) or 10" x 50" (TMV-K).
Sharp vertical knee mills feature a variety of unique design features. "Sharp was the first one to use the backlash eliminator by a double nut design that keeps the feed screw in contact with a pair of bronze nuts," said a company spokesperson. "The feed nuts are then adjusted to control backlash and held tight with a retaining nut and locking ring.
"The new patented knuckled-head design has a knuckle which uses six bolts, three on each side, fitted into circular t-slots with matching nuts securing them from the outside and locks the head into place for better accuracy and performance. Other features include roller bearing support on the base of the motor shaft and an easy access lubricating shaft. These machines are ideally suited for educational institutions, toolrooms and various job shops."
