New Double Column VMC Designed for High Precision

Kitamura offers its new Bridgecenter-6G high-precision, double column vertical machining center (VMC). The VMC is designed with a 1,530 mm (60") X-axis travel with a Y-distance travel of 1,095 mm (43.1") within a compact footprint, taking up approximately 166 sq. ft. of floor space. According to the company, #40 or #50 taper spindle options are available for the flexibility needed in the heavy-duty cutting of molds to the high-speed, high-accuracy cutting required for high-precision parts. Both configurations are designed to offer positioning accuracy of 0.000078" and repeatability of 0.000039". "The Bridgecenter-6G is the perfect machine for large, long parts that require a wider machining area, most often associated with the die mold, aerospace and defense industries," said a company spokesperson.

According to the company, the design of the Bridgecenter-6G allows for a reduction in fixturing and set-up of parts that would otherwise generally require more than one machine to complete. In addition, the Bridgecenter-6G offers a heavy-duty table load capacity of 3,000 kg (6,600 lbs.) within its spacious table working area - 900 mm (35.4") x 1,800 mm (70.9").

Bridgecenter-6G Features

"The basic construction of the Bridgecenter-6G consists of a bed type casting with square section support columns, incorporating a triangular section cross beam for an even distribution of weight during heavy cutting," said the spokesperson. "Standard linear scale feedback ensures optimum accuracy on a machine of this size. Construction of the Bridgecenter-6F combines super-finish, ground-hardened solid box ways on all axes with high grade Meehanaite castings to deliver outstanding accuracy with excellent vibration damping capabilities."

According to the company, on the #40 taper configuration, a 15,000 RPM, direct drive, dual contact spindle is standard for lighter cuts with fine-finish capabilities at higher speeds. The #50 taper configuration offers a 12,000 RPM 4-step gear driven, dual contact spindle allowing for a maximum output torque of 237.5 ft-lbs. with fine finish capabilities. "The dual contact spindle design is standard on both machine configurations and offers the benefits of greater machining rigidity, improved surface finish, higher cutting accuracy and extended cutting tool life," said the spokesperson.

The Bridgecenter-6G is equipped standard with high-speed rapids of 945 IPM on the X, Y and Z axes on box ways. A 40-tool upgradeable ATC is standard with a 2.8 tool-to-tool change time. The Bridgecenter-6G is available with 4th/5th axis interface upgrades allowing for the machining of more complex multi-sided parts.

"Kitamura combines many standard features in our feature-rich Arumatik-Mi control. With a 5-times faster processing speed, the Arumatik-Mi CNC Controller offers a smooth control process for fast machining of complex workpieces. A 512 GB hard disc drive allows the Bridgecenter-6G to run large programs over 100 hours continuously from the hard disc or USB memory."
