High Rail Gantry Provides High-Speed Machining of Large Workpieces
January 1, 2015
SNK's new HGM-2500 High Rail Gantry 5-axis Profiler is the latest in the HGM Series. It features a redesigned 20,000 RPM HP spindle which provides stable, high accuracy machining of various large-sized components. "It is ideal for industries such as aerospace and transportation," said a company spokesperson. "The HGM-2500 has a distance between columns of 3,800 mm (150 inches) yet requires less space than comparable table type machines."
According to the company, the HGM has rapid feedrates of 60 m/minute on the X- and Y-axes, 30 m/minute on the Z-axis and 7,200 deg/minute on the B, C-axis. The feedrates on this large-size machine are designed to boost productivity by minimizing cycle time for greater productivity. "The machine's construction employs highly rigid bridge type construction utilizing a gantry that travels on fixed side rails for enhanced stability, greater accuracy and excellent workpiece maneuverability," said the spokesperson.
Other machine features include a FANUC 31i MODEL B5 CNC system with SNK's "DCS-V Aero Edition" software package, ATC tool storage capacity (total: 80), chip conveyor and splash guard and roof cover.
