BOX in BOX Design Provides Optimum Cutting Performance

The NIIGATA SPN503 available from SNK America is the newest model in the SPN series of horizontal machining centers (HMCs) with BOX in BOX design. "The HMC provides high-speed, high-production, optimum cutting performance and long-term stability," said a company spokesperson. The SPN503 utilizes NIIGATA's BOX in BOX construction designed to eliminate deflection of the base and column to less than a few microns in order to maintain squareness and allow for simple 3-point installation. "Linear guideways on the X-, Y- and Z-axes maximize speed during machining," said the spokesperson.

The SPN503 has a pallet size of 19.7" x 19.7" with a maximum pallet load of 1,320 lbs. Travel on the X/Y/Z is 31.5"/29.5"/29.5". Feedrate is 1,575 with a rapid feedrate of 2,401 IPM.

"The SPN503 features a dual-stage ATC system that reduces tool change time and increases productivity," said the spokesperson. Other features include an ATC with a standard capacity of 62 tools (88, 128 optional, field expandable) standard 40 HP/10,000 RPM spindle with chiller unit and side or rear facing discharge chip removal system.
