3-Axis Mill Designed for High Velocities

The Hurco VMX42i 3-axis mill is designed to withstand the high velocities and accelerations of today's applications. "The heavy, ribbed frame is constructed of fine grain, high-grade cast iron and the mill's double-nut, pre-tensioned ball screws are anchored at both ends for increased accuracy and rigidity," said a company spokesperson.

According to the company, the linear rails on all Hurco machines are larger and spaced for increased strength. "Hurco wedge locks the rails to a machined shoulder to make the mill more robust instead of simply mounting them to a single surface," said the spokesperson. With X/Y/Z travels of 42 x 24 x 24 inches, the VMX42i has rapids of 1,378 IPM on the X- and Y-axes and 1,181 IPM on the Z-axis.

"The versatility of the integrated Hurco control has benefit for manufacturers with a high mix of parts," said the spokesperson. "Hurco is known for revolutionizing the industry with the invention of conversational programming. The control in this mill is equally powerful for industry standard NC and has the processing power and memory to handle large, complex part programs (64-GB Solid State Drive, 2 GHz Dual Core Processor, and 2 GB of memory)."

According to the company, the VMX42i includes Hurco's patented motion control technology called UltiMotion, which is designed to simultaneously improve surface finish quality and reduce cycle time by up to 30 percent. The VMX42i also includes a new conversational pocketing feature called AdaptiPath, which is used in high-end CAD/CAM packages. This feature is designed to increase metal removal rates, support rest machining, reduce cycle time and extend tool life due to controlled engagement cutting.
