Newall Electronics has introduced two new encoders: a programmable rotary encoder and a draw wire encoder.
Programmable Rotary Encoder
Newall's RPE-PV programmable rotary encoder features a dynamic encoder resolution capability that is designed for users to easily program the resolution anywhere between one and 10,000 counts per revolution. The RPE-PV is packaged as an industry standard 2.5" rotary encoder housing.
According to the company, users can produce a wide range of resolutions from one encoder, and it can be reprogrammed as needed to change the resolution. The RPE-PV can be programmed over its existing M18 connector. Users may plug the encoder directly into any PC with an M18-to-USB programming cable. The programming software automatically detects the encoder, and then the user may type in the desired resolution and click the "Program" button.
"Equipment can often have many encoders with various resolutions providing feedback to the control system," said a company spokesperson. "RPE-PV encoders can be kept on the shelf and programmed as needed. Users simply program the encoder for the appropriate resolution, and equipment is up and running in no time. This not only reduces machine downtime but also saves on inventory costs."
Draw Wire Encoder
Newall Electronics has also introduced a draw wire encoder. "The RDW-PV draw wire encoder provides linear position in a rugged, easy-to-install package," said a company spokesperson. The encoder can be used by either connecting the cable to the moving member of the machine and securing its base to a fixed object or vice versa.
The RDW-PV features a retractable cable made of nylon coated stainless steel. It weighs approximately 3.3 pounds and can be installed by attaching the encoder's wire to the spindle assembly and then mounting the encoder to the machine surface. The encoder does not require a linear guide way. Its measuring range is up to 125 inches and the linear resolution is up to 0.0005 inches.
The company stresses that this wire encoder is good for situations where a linear encoder cannot fit or be installed. This encoder is designed for wet, dirty or outdoor environments. "The RDW-PV can be used with Newall's DP1200 or SA-100 DRO units to provide accurate and reliable measurements even in harsh environments," said the spokesperson.
