New Heavy-Duty VMCs
August 1, 2014
Over the past 12 months Sharp has expanded its vertical machining center (VMC) line with the addition of a new heavy-duty moldmaking linear roller way VMC and a gearhead VMC designed for heavy cutting. All of these machines will be featured at IMTS.
According to the company, Sharp Industries' heavy-duty linear roller way VMC, model SVL-4525, is designed for die-mold manufacturers and job shops looking for high quality performance. The machine features XYZ travels of 45" x 25" x 20". The machine comes standard with a 10,000 RPM spindle (optional 12,000 or 15,000). For higher tool rigidity the machine is equipped with a CAT 40 BIG PLUS spindle. The Sharp SVL-4525 has a rapid traverse up to 1,417 IPM (36 m) and 25 HP. "As the heaviest machine in its class at over 18,000 lbs., this machine is perfect for high precision mold work, with scales mounted at the axes," said a company spokesperson.
Sharp Industries' gearhead VMC, model SVG-6335A, is designed for heavy cutting and features XYZ travels of 63" x 34.64" x 27.6". The machine comes standard with a CAT-50 spindle taper and has a spindle speed of 8,000 RPM. The spindle is driven directly by a two-speed gearbox that drives the gear transmission and no drive belts are used. The spindle transmission uses only hardened and precision ground gears.
