High Performance Cutting Tools for Demanding Applications
August 1, 2014
Emuge Corp. will highlight a wide range of high performance tools, including new tap designs engineered for threading difficult materials such as stainless steels, nickel alloys and titanium. New milling tools for turbine blade manufacturing and tool holding solutions, such as the SpeedSynchro for high production tapping, will also be showcased.
Emuge will also be conducting live machining demonstrations in its booth. New tap lines include Emuge Z-Taps with GLT-1 coating for stainless and alloy steel applications and taps featuring new Emuge Variable Helix Correction (VHC) geometry.
"Emuge Z-Taps are designed with an advanced chamfer geometry and rake / flute form," said a company spokesperson. "GLT-1, a newly developed multi-layered coating, produces a consistent, controllable chip formation that is released smoothly for fast and efficient chip removal. GLT-1 is uniquely structured with advanced heat resistance characteristics, along with an outer anti-friction layer. These elements synergistically combine to produce enhanced wear resistance and sliding properties that result in improved tool life, reduced torque, optimized chip evacuation and enhanced thread finish in high strength alloys, tool steels and cast steels. Emuge Z-Taps feature an increased number of flutes and a shortened thread section to reduce friction, and a lower cutting torque to reduce the occurrence of tap breakage and enable higher cutting speeds."
New Emuge Spiral Flute Bottoming Taps for threading nickel alloys will also be featured. The taps are designed with a Variable Helix Correction, a specially ground relief geometry in the primary cutting zone, which generates smaller, tightly rolled chips to prevent chip jamming in the tap teeth during machining. Emuge will also feature new plug taps for threading nickel alloys, designed with an advanced left-hand helical flute form and chamfer geometry to optimize chip evacuation and cutting teeth strength for enhanced tool life and process security. New taps designed for threading titanium and a new line of high penetration rate carbide drills will also be introduced.
