5-Axis Machining and Automation
August 1, 2014
GROB Systems brings the G-Series universal machining centers to IMTS this September. Based on a horizontal machining center platform popular with automotive OEMs, GROB universal machines are designed for manufacturers in medical, aerospace, die/mold and other industries.
"The smallest machine in the line, G-350, requires less floor space than other machines with the same work zone," said a company spokesperson. "GROB's original spindle design accommodates very long tools (365 mm/14.3 in) with no interference, even with the largest workpiece size. The maximum part is a 600 mm cylinder with 500 mm in height (± 23.6 in x 19.7 in)." The G-350 will be paired with the Schuler 12-pallet system to demonstrate automated scheduling and handling.
The mid-size G-550T will be shown with a turning option for parts up to 900 mm in cylinder (± 35.4"). The high-speed table rotates at 800 RPM while compensating for uneven loads. Maximum part height is 730 mm (28.7"), and longest tool is 500 mm (19.6"). Both models feature the GROB-designed and built table with 225° of rotation in the A-axis and continuous 360° in B-axis. It is possible to completely invert the table for upside down machining while chips free-fall away from the part.
