Lubricant-Free Linear Technology

The compact DryLin E SAW-0630 from igus is now available with stepper motor.

Lubricant-free means the drive system is suitable for rough environments.

Ready-to-fit DryLin E drives with a motor cable in a plastic Energy Chain on a handling gantry.

igus is now offering its linear actuators with polymer bearings, complete with motor, from stock. Currently, the small motor range covers stepper motors in sizes NEMA17 and NEMA23. The motors are optionally available with encoder and/or brake.

"Stepper motors are a good accessory to the DryLin linear drives due to their cost-effectiveness, precision and simple operation," said a company spokesperson. "The units work reliably in a wide range of environmental conditions (depending on the IP protection class chosen). The NEMA standard also guarantees global availability. Alternatively, igus has designed the drive units for lubricant-free linear movements in such a way that they can also be driven by competitor stepper motors. To achieve this, igus offers customers who already have a motor a quick-fit connection by means of an aluminum spacer and motor flange to fit the NEMA motor."

The linear axis DryLin E SAW-0630 with NEMA 17 motor is driven via a trapezoidal or high-helix thread lead screw. Pitches from .06" to .6" (1.5 - 15 mm) are available. The drive lead screws are supported by ball bearings. The lead screw nuts are made of tribologically optimized iglide high-performance polymers, and designed to provide freedom from lubrication over the entire stroke length and entire life of the bearing. Almost all the components used for the ready-to-fit linear unit are made from plastic and aluminum for lower weight. The SAW-0630 may be utilized for simple lubricant-free format adjustments, feed movements and the handling of components. The new driven axis is available from stock within a few days, in the length specified and including the motor.

The linear guide itself is comprised of a bearing housing and tribologically optimized polymer gliding film for low friction and wear. According to the company, the design makes a flexible and modular structure possible, making assembly easy. There are a variety of design possibilities to choose from, with 12 rail profiles available, single and double rail options, and the choice between individual bearings or complete slides. These guides are also available as linear axes with a toothed belt drive.
