Sodick Opens New Factory, Reaches Company Milestone

(l-r) Ceremony attendee, Sodick Executive Vice President Yuji Akutsu, Sodick President Dave Thomas.

Sodick, Inc., a manufacturer of EDM technology, recently held an opening ceremony at its new manufacturing plant in Pathumthani, Thailand. During the opening ceremony, Sodick also announced that in 2012 the company reached a milestone of selling 30,000 linear motor driven machines since the launch of its linear motor driven machines in 1999.

The new facility will collaborate with the other Sodick Thailand facility located nearby, which opened in 1990 and employs over 1,000 people, for enhanced productivity. The new location will produce parts and components for EDM machines and will assemble sinker EDMs. The expected volume for 2013 is 2,000 machines, with increasing numbers projected for future years.

Sodick now has a total of six production facilities. "Having production facilities in various locations minimizes geopolitical risks and enables the expansion of production capacity in accordance with market demand," said a company spokesperson. "The Sodick Group continues to work towards establishing a flexible and strong production network which ensures the stable delivery of products with the highest quality to customers worldwide."

Sodick machines are used for the production of dies and molds and other applications that cannot be produced by standard machining methods. Sodick has six ISO certified manufacturing facilities with over 3,000 employees worldwide and technical centers located in Chicago, New Jersey and California.
