Operator Support System Optimizes Machining Center Processes
June 1, 2013
GF AgieCharmilles' Operator Support System (OSS) is designed to optimize the performance of the company's high-speed and high-performance machining centers by automatically configuring cutting parameters based on the structure and requirements of the workpiece.
Through the OSS' intuitive user interface, an operator can selectively define and modify the target variables of a job, which include speed, accuracy, surface quality, workpiece weight and machining complexity. The OSS offers 12 initial presets, with the ability to save additional customized settings. Once the aspects of the job have been prioritized, the OSS adjusts the dynamic behavior of the machine to provide optimum results.
"Overall, the OSS provides significant reductions in cycle times and improvements to workpiece surface quality," said a company spokesperson. "In fact, the user-friendly, automated nature of the system eliminates much of the time an operator would traditionally spend trying to maximize cutting data. Furthermore, the system helps operators avoid machine damage and excessive wear caused by incorrect or overly aggressive parameterization."
