MSCI Designates September as National Voter Registration Month

In a dramatic and polarizing election year, real issues are being ignored. The Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI) has named September National Voter Registration month. The association is working with members to host voter registration drives and raise awareness of important metals issues throughout the United States.

“Our involvement in pro-manufacturing legislation is critical,” said MSCI President and CEO M. Robert Weidner, III. “Our country, and political parties are in a dramatic state. Although the news indicates the economy is recovering, it is not strong. The industrial metals supply chain is still shipping nearly 40 percent less than it was 10 years ago. There are important issues at hand that directly impact the metals industry, our member companies and their success. Many people depend on these jobs and the continued health of the industry to support their families.”

“The metals manufacturing industry plays a critical role in the global economy, sustaining nearly 2.5 million U.S. jobs and contributing over $550 billion to U.S. gross domestic product,” said a MSCI spokesperson. “The metal industry's economic impact is greater than the film, aircraft manufacturing and software industries.”

MSCI is working with member companies to host voter registration drives and offer employees and customers an opportunity to register to vote. Non-partisan materials on important public policy issues that affect the metals industry, MSCI member companies, and metals industry jobs will also be available.

Weidner explained these drives will not be used to promote any one candidate, but rather to help MSCI’s metals industry colleagues exercise their right to make their voice heard. MSCI’s new advocacy website features its full issues agenda, Congressional Scorecard and the 2016 Election Center detailing each candidate’s views on key issues, among other resources.
