CAM Software Features Presented
August 1, 2016
OPEN MIND Technologies USA, Inc. will present hyperMILL MAXX Machining at IMTS 2016. MAXX Machining is a set of performance strategies within hyperMILL CAM software to provide dramatic improvements in machining times for roughing, drilling and finishing.
MAXX Machining Roughing is a high performance roughing module, based on Celeritive's Volumill toolkit with extensions by OPEN MIND. "This module helps provide increased cutter life while reducing roughing times from 35% to 70% compared to conventional roughing techniques," said a company spokesperson. OPEN MIND offers this technique within 2-D pocketing routines, 3-D stock roughing and 5-axis shape offset roughing.
MAXX Machining Drilling a technique to open holes for roughing using a 5-axis helical drilling technique that allows high efficiency and chip removal. This technique can use standard endmills and avoid double-cutting chips that leads to degradation of tooling.
The MAXX Machining Finishing technique includes a set of finishing operations focused on the application of conical barrel cutters. This can be applied to large planar surfaces found in mold tooling and also in aerospace structural components. And also on other large ruled or sculpted surfaces. The large radius on the conical barrel cutter allows large step-over distances and can achieve high surface finish. "Applied on large surfaces that are typically cut with a ball endmill, the confirmed savings with this process is up to 90%," said the spokesperson. The process includes options for simultaneous or indexed milling, corner bounding passes and automatic boundary detections. The conical barrel cutter also has a ball end ground on the bottom, enabling additional usage of the cutter for fillet surfaces or mold product surfaces.
