Vision Guided Automation Technologies
August 1, 2016
At IMTS 2016 ABB Robotics will showcase a variety of advanced and vision-guided automation technologies designed to optimize machine tool efficiency and increase manufacturing productivity. With the recent acquisition of SVIA, the featured products include new additions to the ABB machine tending automation portfolio. The systems are easy to install, feature a human/machine interface and are suited for a variety of machining applications and industries.
The highlight of the ABB exhibit is the FlexMT 60 Machine Tool Tending System, a flexible pre-engineered system designed to load and unload machine tools using vision guided robotics. Designed for both small batch and high volume production, the FlexMT increases spindle utilization by up to 60% over manual machine tending. The system can handle most any size and type of part, and is compatible with a range of machine tools, including horizontal and vertical lathes, machining centers, 5-axis machines and grinders.
The FlexMT 60 includes an ABB IRB 4600 robot with a 60 kg payload and a 2.05 m reach. A second model, the FlexMT 20, features an ABB IRB 2600 robot with a 20 kg payload and a 1.65 m reach.
