Flexible 6-Axis Robot and EDM Drilling
August 1, 2016
Current EDM has announced its IMTS 2016 lineup to include a robotic drilling cell featuring a KUKA Agilus robot (KR 6 R700). The robotic drilling cell features the Siemens 840Dsl control. Depending on the application, a 25 peak amp (0.006" ~0.080" dia. electrodes) or 57 peak amp (0.008" ~0.256" dia. electrodes) power supply is available.
Current EDM, Inc. has directly integrated the Siemens 840Dsl control with the 6-axis KUKA Agilus robot (KUKA Robotics Corp., Shelby Township, MI) to create an EDM drilling solution for production applications. Producing consistent, virtually burr-free holes in the part. In addition, electrodes and parts can be loaded and unloaded automatically by the robot for hours of unattended operation.
The system can be outfitted with a vision inspection system or incorporated into a cell with other machine tools. The EDMDrill head and the robot are contained within a Plexiglas enclosure with safety light curtains that help insure operator safety throughout the drilling process.
