Metal Scrap and Fluid Management
August 1, 2016
PRAB, Inc. is scheduled to present an interactive discussion on how metalworking companies can realize productivity gains and improve cost structures through automated, comprehensive scrap and fluid management. The conference presentation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016, in room W-194A and will focus on the foundation of continuous improvement process (CIP). When focused on scrap metal and fluid waste stream management, CIP is a narrowed focus to Collect or Convey, Improve Condition, and Process & Fluid Recovery.
Each step in the CIP process of scrap and fluid management is critical to achieving quantifiable results. Collect and convey means that scrap is captured at the point of generation and automatically transferred away from machining operations. Improving the condition of scrap translates to volume reduction of nested, bushy wads of turnings, removal of tramp metals and generation of consistent, dry flowable metal chips. Process and fluid recovery is the stage where metalworking fluids are separated from solids. This step is of growing importance in terms of contracting a higher return on metal scrap and supporting ISO-14001 and EPA Environmental Compliance. Fluid recovery and recycling not only help to keep working environments safe, but also reduce new coolant purchases while mitigating the risk of fines for failure to properly haul away and dispose of spent fluids.
The presentation will be conducted by field experienced professionals from PRAB who have spent more than 30 years understanding and supporting the needs of metalworking companies through the development and maintenance of their scrap and fluid management processes.
E-Series Chip Processing System
In booth NC-238 PRAB will demonstrate the E-Series Chip Processing System using enhanced 3-D digital animation. Visitors will see inside equipment as each piece works in series to reduce volumes of metal turnings into thumbnail size chips, separate oil and dry chips, and collect oil for recycle and reuse. Also featured in the booth will be the Horizontal Axis Crusher, Paperbed filter, Guardian Tramp Oil Separator and Reverse Osmosis System for recycling wastewater.
PRAB's Reverse Osmosis (RO) system is designed for treating wastewater from metalworking activities. RO is purification technology that uses a semipermeable membrane and applied pressure to overcome osmotic pressure. This technology is used alone or as a component in a comprehensive wastewater treatment program. A water analysis is performed to determine the exact equipment requirements to meet reuse or approved dumping requirements.
