At SOUTH-TEC 2015 in booth 1617, GF Machining Solutions will showcase EDM and milling solutions from its comprehensive machine tool portfolio. Applications experts will be available to discuss how the CUT 200 Sp, FORM 20 iRTC and HEM 500U can boost precision and productivity in a variety of part processing operations, from dental implants to aerospace impellers.
AgieCharmilles CUT 200 Sp Wire EDM
"The CUT 200 Sp (speed edition) is among the most versatile and economical wire EDM machines on the market. It provides fast spark-to-spark wire threading, low energy consumption and high productivity when cutting parts of variable heights, such as plastic injection molds, aluminum extrusion dies, aerospace parts and medical components," said a company spokesperson.
Able to accommodate wire diameters from 0.002" to 0.012", the CUT 200 Sp can handle part tapers of up to 45 degrees, regardless of part thickness. Its digital CC generator enables surface finishes as fine as Ra 0.1 um and offers an industrial cutting speed of 15.75 in2/min.
The Power Expert smart module on the CUT 200 Sp continuously calculates part thickness, checks injection pressure and adjusts the machine's power accordingly. This prevents wire breakage when the thickness of a part changes during machining.
AgieCharmilles FORM 20 iRTC Sinker EDM
The automated FORM 20 iRTC comes with an integrated rotary tool changer (iRTC) to boost part processing flexibility while increasing the capability for continuous, unattended production.
Suited for manufacturers in the mold and die, aerospace and automotive sectors, the machine can process jobs that require either multiple electrodes or several workpieces varying in size and geometry. It accommodates electrodes as heavy as 22 pounds and as large as 5.9" x 3.94" or ranging to 5.9" in diameter and height. Depending on the size, the changer can hold either eight or 16 electrodes or workpieces.
The 70-amp Intelligent Power Generator on the FORM 20 iRTC requires just 3.7 kW/h at full power. Plus, its design helps optimize the EDM process, reduce electrode wear, as well as provides uniform surface finishes. Additionally, the machine features the company's AC FORM HMI (human machine interface), which centers on user friendliness and intuitiveness.
Mikron HEM 500U
Part of the company's High Efficiency Machining Series, the HEM 500U 5-axis machining center has a dynamic 12,000 RPM ISO-B40 spindle that effectively cuts components up to 19.7" in diameter and 440 pounds from aluminum alloys and steel materials. A 30-tool magazine with a 2-second chip-to-chip time increases the spindle's uptime.
To provide 3+2 machining and 5-side positioning, the HEM 500U employs a trunnion table that tilts -65/+110 degrees in the B-axis and rotates 360 degrees in C. Axis travels in X, Y and Z measure 19.7", 17.7" and 15.7", respectively, while a distance of 5.9" between the machine spindle nose and rotary table surface allows for ample maneuverability around workpieces.
The HEM 500U features a Heidenhain iTNC 530 control. "This versatile, workshop-oriented control for 5 (3 + 2)-axis machining features an integrated digital drive control with integrated inverter, enabling it to produce a highly accurate workpiece contour while machining at high velocity," said a company spokesperson.
