The Tsugami B0326-II 32 mm 6-axis opposed gang tool lathe may be run as a traditional sliding headstock machine with a guide bushing or operated with an optional chucker kit. When used as a chucker, the machine can use drawn bar stock instead of centerless ground stock, reducing remnant size and increasing shop profitability and flexibility, reported Rem Sales.
The machine has 11 live tool positions, seven of which are modular, and features a dual path FANUC 32i-B CNC that cuts cycle time by permitting true simultaneous operation of the main and sub-spindles. The addition of an optional back rotary tool increases the machine's capabilities.
"We replaced three conventional turning centers and four operators with one Tsugami B0326-II," said Brian Nix, President of Nix Manufacturing. "Our daily production is up almost 300%, and the machine's accuracy has significantly reduced our scrap rate."
Equipped with modular live tooling for quick changeovers and a large, easily accessible tool zone, the B0326-II is also ergonomically designed.
"It is easy to operate and very capable," said Rem Sales Business Unit Manager Scott Anthony. "The B0326-II extends the significant productivity gains normally associated with Tsugami's higher priced machines to a much broader customer base. It is an affordable option for shops making large runs of small diameter parts."
