Range of Heavy-Duty Vertical Lathes
October 1, 2015
KNUTH Machine Tools USA offers its expansive range of the VDM series conventional vertical lathes in seven different sizes, from 31.5" 102" swing.
All machines have heavy-duty construction, are designed with fine grain castings and feature a massive headstock, heavy machine bed and wide box ways. "They are designed for customers who need to replace aging vertical lathes that are expensive to rebuild and difficult to repair, or as an alternative to purchasing an already remanufactured machine," said a company spokesperson.
The machine is equipped for O.D./I.D. turning and features a vertical ram with 5-station toolholder and horizontal side ram with four-position toolholder. The spindle runs in a high-precision two-row roller bearing and is adjustable. Its reduction gear drive is designed to ensure high torque. Spindle motors are available up to 50 HP on the VDM 2600. Machining heights up to 59" are standard and options are available for extended columns for more height capacity. Maximum part weight capacity is over 22,000 lbs.
This series includes various models that feature an inverter-controlled turntable providing infinitely variable speeds in four gear ranges from 1.2 to 315 RPM. The machines have a new control panel with a 3-axis digital readout and feature a spindle speed display. VDMs are now available with optional full enclosures, turntable enclosures and chip conveyors.
