The PRAB Dualpak briquetter is "engineered metal processing equipment that uses the press expertise of NEFF Press coupled with the metalworking experience of PRAB and the briquetting knowledge of PuckMaster to build a reliable briquetting machine," said a company spokesperson.
"The reason to briquette is to cut costs, mitigate environmental risk and increase the value of a waste stream," said Mike Hook, North American Sales Engineer for PRAB. "The key to achieving these outcomes is a dry, solid, consistent briquetting process."
Reliable, consistent briquetting is a function of the hydraulics. The feed time, system pressure, dwell time and other factors are key elements for creating a stable briquette. "However, the design of the hydraulic power unit is the critical component to obtaining a solid end product," said the spokesperson. "The PRAB Dualpak uses technology derived from hydraulic press design to produce dry briquettes that are up to 99% liquid free. The Dualpak handles all material types, from the easily malleable aluminum to the rigid Inconel and titanium materials."
Briquetting adds value to scrap metal by removing the liquid, reducing scrap volume and decreasing transportation costs. The process also helps support EPA regulations by removing hazardous cutting fluid from solid material. In addition, the briquetting process recaptures coolant that can be recycled and reused.
The Dualpak Briquetter has an infeed hopper with augers to feed the wet chips or swarf into a compression chamber where opposing hydraulic cylinders press the metal and squeeze out fluid to create a compact, dry briquette.
"The briquettes created by the Dualpak exclusive dual-compaction are safe and easy to re-melt and can command a higher price from recyclers because 99% of the weight is the actual metal, not fluid," said Hook. The briquettes are also easy to store, helping to maintain a clean shop floor while using less space for storage until sale."
The Dualpak features touchscreen controls for access to reporting and diagnostics, and can process aluminum, steel, cast iron, copper, brass, titanium, magnesium, Inconel, alloy steels and more.
