Latest Generation Optical Measurement Technology
October 27, 2015Jenoptik Industrial Metrology will introduce a new generation of optical shaft measuring devices at the Quality Show, October 27-29, 2015, in booth 1118. The new single-camera solution permits the measurement of workpieces up to 80 mm in diameter without any loss of resolution, reported the company. Accuracy with MPE values (maximum allowable error) of less than 2 µm are typical.
The new Hommel-Etamic Opticline series is designed for production floor evaluation of shaft-like parts up to 150 mm in diameter and 900 mm in length (depending on product model) with enhanced performance and functionality. Opticline series products feature an all-new 0.1 µm high-resolution camera, with enhanced measurement accuracy and increased frequency of measurement during the measurement cycle.
“Optical measurement of workpiece profiles, diameters and spacing, angle or radii, threads, rotation angles, form and geometric tolerances, or outer contours of high precision workpieces can be determined quickly and flexibly within a compact floorspace,” said a company spokesperson. For checking length and angular measurements, an optional touch probe is available.
“The automotive sector can significantly reduce CO2 emissions in motor vehicles by optimizing the designs of engines, transmissions and chassis,” said the spokesperson. “Individual components must meet precise quality standards, all while manufacturers are increasing manufacturing productivity. Quality assurance processes are essential to meeting these changed requirements with equipment that is simple to operate and highly precise, while quickly and reliably collecting measurement data within the production environment. Further, product changes and rapid production require a high degree of flexibility in the quality assurance arena. The next generation Opticline products have been designed to meet these stringent requirements.”
The new Opticline systems are designed to be more robust and resilient. The basic design and mechanical components have been improved to make the device less sensitive to possible external influences, such as vibrations, operator error and more.
The optical system is hermetically sealed, preventing dust or oil mist from interfering with the measurements. Active self-monitoring mechanisms and temperature compensation have been optimized, improving the long-term stability of the measuring device.
The new series has a more ergonomic design and features an open and widely accessible part loading area. The controls are clearly arranged and easy to reach. Also, light curtains reliably protect the operator from intervention in dangerous areas.
“Using an improved mechanical design that includes both an improved tailstock and headstock, Opticline systems deliver high-precision results for form, location and dimensional measurements within just a few seconds,” said the spokesperson. “The new mechanical design also creates an optimized ergonomic environment that maximizes user friendliness.”
Jenoptik measuring and evaluation software, Turbo Optic, is a key element in the intuitive and simplified operation of Opticline products. “This software provides the end user with robust evaluation software that is simple to program and easy to understand,” said the spokesperson. “Whether it is creating test plans or performing complicated measuring runs, Turbo Optic provides users with reliable support for whatever task they need to complete.”
