CAM Product Preview
September 1, 2015
hyperMILL 2016.1 will be previewed at OPEN MIND's booth 1306. hyperMILL is a CAM software covering 2.5D through 5-axis milling and drilling, mill-turn and specialized CAM solutions for a set of dedicated markets.
hyperMILL integrates into the hyperCAD-S front-end with dedicated CAD for CAM functions, and also with popular CAD software systems SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor. Each of these platforms can read industry standard neutral file formats and many popular native CAD formats. The integrated solutions allow users to run CAD and CAM concurrently, which eliminates data conversion issues and facilitates programming efficiency.
Machining topics include feature recognition on native and imported models, macro database to store best practice, high performance roughing from 2.5 axis up to 5-axis, and an array of multi-axis and 5-axis techniques. Collision detection and collision avoidance simplify the programming task and provide high quality tool paths. Programming automation is available in many levels including macros that store process knowledge, smart macros that include logic to adapt to the current situation, and CPF customized process features that can react to model data that is organized by color or layer or other attributes.
The hyperMILL 2016.1 preview includes high performance finishing operations based on innovative cutting strategies that use barrel cutters. According to a company spokesperson, the benefit for finishing operations is up to 90% time reduction by using larger step-overs with barrel cutters compared to ball endmills. The strategies apply well to typical aerospace structural components. The implementation will be promulgated through additional strategies in coming versions. There are also improvements to rest machining technology in hyperMILL 2016.1.
