Arm Laser Scanner Speeds Up Inspection

Hexagon Metrology has released the RS3 upgrade package for the ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated laser scanner. The RS3 doubles the scan rate of the previous RS2 integrated scanner, enabling users to inspect parts in approximately half the time. The laser scanner will be available with all newly purchased ROMER Absolute Arm SI portable measurement systems or as an upgrade option.

The RS3 integrated scanner delivers greater point cloud density with a maximum acquisition speed more than nine times faster than its predecessor. Users will benefit from the latest RDS proprietary software featuring SMART technology that monitors the arm in real-time and reduces the mean time to repair, stated the company.

"The ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated scanner is already well-known for delivering excellent scan results, even on tricky surfaces like carbon fiber and steel. The performance improvement of the RS3 compared to the previous RS2 model is really quite extraordinary," said Stephan Amann, Product Line Manager at Hexagon Metrology. "Existing systems can be upgraded very quickly without returning the arm to the factory so customers will see immediate benefits in terms of speed and usability."

The ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated scanner combines non-contact scanning and tactile probing into a multi-purpose portable measurement system. It is designed for point cloud inspection, product benchmarking, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, virtual assembly and CNC milling applications. Scanner and probe measurements can be made seamlessly in one software session. ROMER Absolute Arms with integrated scanner comes standard with the RS3 laser scanner.
