Heavy-Duty Horizontal Machining Center
September 1, 2015
The Victor Taichung / Fortune Vcenter-H1000 horizontal machining center weighs close to 70,000 lbs. and features travel of 53" x 41" x 46" and table work area of 39.4" x 39.4". "It has heavy-duty Meehanite castings, in the bed and column, designed for maximum damping and strength. One-piece bed casting with triangular structure and heavily ribbed column minimize machine distortion during operation. Boxways are cast into the bed and column so no distortion occurs due to thermal differences between the slide-ways and machine casting. This maintains alignment of the ways throughout the machine life," said a company spokesperson.
Table height is kept low to reduce the bending moment so that improved positioning accuracy is possible under heavy cutting, stated the company. A curvic coupling in table indexing is designed for repeatability. All axes motors are direct coupled with flexible couplings so that no transmission vibrations are present. For Y-axis, counter balancing is replaced with 9.4 HP servo-motor with built-in brake designed for smoother travel and finer positioning accuracy.
"Symmetrical design and construction means heat generation is limited to minimize the effects of thermal growth on machine accuracies. Double-anchored ballscrews are pretensioned during assembly to absorb thermal growth without affecting accuracy. Effective chip evacuation from the machining area improves heat dissipation from the working area while spindle oil cooling prevents excessive spindle growth," said a company spokesperson.
The Vcenter-H1000 is designed to handle large workpieces in a single set-up. The 2-speed gearbox coupled with 30 HP spindle motor offers maximum torque output of 790 ft-lbs. Oil cooling to the spindle and gearbox maintain low bearing temperature for extended spindle life.
The parallel pallet changer features increased machining area for oversized parts (53" dia. X 53" h) without interference with machine guarding, stated the company. Pallets can be easily removed from the APC to make workpiece set-ups trouble free, stated the company. The system also enables integration into FMS lines. Optional FMC or FMS is composed by multiple pallets and RGV (Rail Guide Vehicle) for unmanned operation.
