Mazak offers its VERSATECH V-100N and V-140N full 5-axis double-column machining centers, multitasking solutions for extra-large, heavy part production.
"Both machines feature spindle heads that position vertically, horizontally and at any angle in between, resulting in excellent performance and productivity in extra-large part production," said a company spokesperson. While the V-100N and V-140N can both accommodate a workpiece weight of 94,800 lbs., the V-140N is designed to handle part lengths of up to 33'.
Mazak equips the spindle heads on these machines with a 10,000-RPM, 50-HP integral spindle motor. Optional spindle speeds of 6,000, 12,000 and 18,000 RPM are also available. "The spindle heads perform full simultaneous 5-axis multi-face machining in single set-ups to significantly reduce large-part handling and repositioning while also boosting cutting accuracy," said the spokesperson.
As standard, 30 tools fit in each machine's automatic tool changer that exchanges tools within a 16.5-second chip-to-chip time designed to reduce non-cut time and shorten overall part cycle times. Mazak also offers optional 60- and 120-tool capacities as well as its 330-tool Tool Hive System for the machines.
"The V-100N and V-140N have the widest distance between columns for their machine class - 110 inches for the V-100N and 149 inches for the V-140N," said the spokesperson. "These distances are what make it possible for the machines to process parts as big as a sport utility vehicle for industries that include aerospace, energy and heavy equipment.
"The spacious machine worktables on the V-100N and V-140N offer the option of loading smaller multiple parts for continuous unmanned operations. And for even higher production, a two-table changing system is available, allowing for two full tables worth of continuous uninterrupted part processing.
"With Mazak's MATRIX 2 CNC control, the V-100N and V-140N deliver very fast processing speed, excellent cornering and superior part surface finishes. Through advanced hardware and software functionality, the control enhances full, simultaneous 5-axis machining and allows for easy and simple incorporation of automation."
