UNISIG to Spotlight Specialized Gundrilling Capabilities at PMTS
April 1, 2015
At PMTS 2015 in booth 476, UNISIG will showcase a compact machine designed to allow job shop owners to economically add gundrilling capabilities to their operations. A recently updated product is the UNISIG UNE6, a machine used for drilling deep holes with smaller diameters.
"Representing the UNE series of gundrilling machines, the UNE6 is suited for medical components such as bone screws and surgical instruments that require the precision drilling of small diameter deep holes into high strength titanium or surgical-grade stainless steel," said a company spokesperson. "A counter rotating workpiece headstock designed for small parts greatly enhances concentricity, and hole diameters with the UNE6 can be drilled as small as .039" (1 mm) with diameter-to-depth ratios beyond 100 to 1.
"Like all UNISIG machines, the UNE6 is engineered and manufactured in the United States with high-performance components. It features cast iron headstock and chip box components, cartridge spindles with premium quality bearings, and a high-precision preloaded ball screw feed."
UNE series gundrilling machines are built for flexibility with a modular design. Machines are available in a variety of configurations with up to four spindles, a single drilling module, dual spindle-spindle modules, and as single or dual module machines.
"The compact construction of the UNE6 allows for quick installation," said the spokesperson. "To ensure immediate production upon installation, UNISIG provides customers with training for machine operation, process optimization and gundrill tool sharpening in UNISIG's training room and lab. The company also provides reference information and practical advice necessary for proper operation."
