The Fermat Group and Lucas Precision, a newly acquired Fermat company, are celebrating their new partnership with the introduction of the new model Lucas 5 Horizontal Boring Mill, which has been designed to meet a current market need.
This new machine features an integrated rotary table and is designed for machining workpieces up to 15 tons. This new Lucas 5 CNC Horizontal Boring Mill is a standardized type of horizontal boring mill engineered especially for the U.S. market. According to the company, it features the newest technology and high quality components, while its rigid construction and optional accessories make it an ideal machine for job shops as well as for standardized production applications.
The Lucas 5 model has a 5 inch spindle (5.12 inch) and a short delivery time due to its predefined size and configuration. The semi-custom built product lines made to the customer's exacting specifications are still available for floor and table mills.
Technical specifications of the new Lucas 5:
- Spindle diameter 130 mm/5.12", spindle taper, CAT 50
- Table travel: X 3,000 mm/118.11"
- Headstock vertical travel: Y 2,500 mm/98.42"
- Column horizontal travel: Z 1,500 mm/59.05"
- FANUC spindle main motor power: 30 kW/40 HP
- FANUC 32i control system
- CNC positioning rotary table load 15 tons, size 1,800 x 2,200 mm/70.86" x 86.61".
Company History
Lucas has a long history of machine tool innovations with a focus on quality. The first Lucas machine, Model #1, was produced in 1901. "More than one hundred years ago, Mr. Lucas made machine tool history by designing and building the first truly commercially available machine with a fixed-height work table that was equipped for simultaneous adjustment of both the counterweighted machine head and the tail block or backrest," said a company spokesperson. "These innovations greatly improved both the accuracy of the boring operation and the set-up of the workpiece. They also permitted the machine bed to be manufactured with a heavily ribbed, deep box construction that was substantially more rigid than other boring machines of that era."
During its history of manufacturing, Lucas has produced over 5,700 horizontal boring, milling and drilling machines of approximately 40 separate models, in addition to various presses, multi-spindle drills, conventional milling machines and other miscellaneous machinery.
"With a focus on flexibility and European quality, Fermat Group is one of the leading suppliers of machine tools - primarily horizontal boring machines, along with the more recent introduction of grinders - in Central Europe. Fermat's annual production is now over 100 machines. The company exports to more than 40 countries worldwide, including Canada, USA, Russia, India, China and South America," said a company spokesperson.
