KOMET offers a lineup of DIHART reaming tools, including the Fullmax universal solid carbide reamer and the Duomax indexable cutting ring.
"The Fullmax serves as a universal reaming tool," said a company spokesperson. "It features an optimum cutting geometry yielding high cutting performance in a variety of materials, including hardened steels up to HRC62. The Fullmax features a modified cutting edge pitch that reduces chatter marks and improves chip formation, along with targeted coolant holes that promote smooth chip evacuation. Fullmax reamers are available for through hole and blind hole applications, with one optimized geometry and one universal coating. This high performance coating can be used in a variety of materials and contributes to improved wear resistance and a longer tool life."
The through hole and blind hole Fullmax reamers are available in diameters ranging from 3 to 22 mm, and the most common diameters are available from stock.
"The Duomax features indexable inserts instead of brazed cutting blades - a first in reaming technology," said the spokesperson. "This yields advantages for customers, as they are able to index and replace the blades before they have to send in the tool for repair. Conversely, brazed cutting rings typically require the customer to send in the tool for repair every time the blades are worn - a costly and time-consuming process that necessitates having many more cutting rings on hand. In this way, the Duomax cutting ring brings advantages in terms of initial purchase cost and inventory management."
Duomax tools are modular, meaning the rings can be exchanged on and off the holders. The rings themselves are easily adjusted when necessary. Each of the indexable inserts provides two fully usable cutting edges. "When the cutting edge is worn, the process of indexing or replacing the inserts is much simpler and faster than with brazed rings," said the spokesperson. "Moreover, the tool life of the Duomax body is much longer, since it is not subject to the thermal stresses of braising each time the cutting edges need replacement."
The cutting rings are a finished, ground-to-size tool - the cutting edges require no set-up or adjustment work. "All DIHART cutting rings feature a flexible diameter range and can be easily and accurately adjusted with the special cutting ring holder, enabling accurate wear compensation and ensuring accurate bore dimensions throughout the life of the tool," said the spokesperson.
Duomax reamers are compatible with the previous generation of DIHART cutting rings, allowing customers to use existing cutting ring holders. Indexable insert reamers are particularly flexible, and additional insert sets are available. Reaming tools can be individually modified with varying cutting materials and coating variants to meet the needs of differing machining tasks.
