White House Meeting Focuses on Small Businesses in Manufacturing

Greg Knox, CEO of Knox Machinery in Franklin, OH, met recently with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss issues that impact small manufacturing businesses. Knox is a member of a number of manufacturing boards in the Midwest.

Knox said in the meeting, "Our manufacturing challenges are based around unfair competition, over regulation, taxation and the biggest challenge - an underdeveloped workforce."

He also discussed with the president his views on the relationship between the government and healthcare. "I feel that the government should not be in the healthcare business," said Knox. "We need free market solutions and not government operated markets. While I do believe in a safety net for those who are not able to provide for themselves, I am against extending those costly privileges to those who are fully able, but not willing to work for it. We need to get back to the core principals and culture that made this country great, which includes work ethic - not welfare; and entrepreneurialism - not entitlement. There is no such thing as `free' - if one person is not paying for something, another necessarily is."

Knox also recently attended a small businessmen's roundtable in Cincinnati, at the invitation of Vice President Mike Pence, to give feedback from a small business perspective to Vice President Pence and Dr. Tom Price, the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. Knox discussed America's manufacturing base and its implications for national security. "The erosion of our manufacturing base equates directly to the erosion of our national security," Knox said.

Knox said he feels certain that President Trump is putting together a plan that can be passed. "The fact that he would invite small business owners to solicit our opinions means he realizes that small business is the business of America and what drives the nation's economy," said Knox.

Knox is a member of the board of AMT - The Association for Manufacturing Technology Economic Forecasting Committee and other manufacturing boards in the Midwest. He is a past Chairman for the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association and has been in the manufacturing industry for more than 30 years.

Knox Machinery provides machinery sales, service and support. It offers applications engineering, turnkey capabilities, preventative maintenance programs and more.
