OMIC R&D Adds Engineer as Research Operations Officer

The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research and Development (OMIC R&D) has announced that Urmaze Naterwalla has joined the organization as its Research Operations Officer. Naterwalla, formerly senior engineer for machining solutions at Boeing Portland, will be developing research operations at OMIC R&D in this new role for the organization.
Craig Campbell, Executive Director of OMIC R&D, said, "We consider ourselves very fortunate that an individual of Urmaze's caliber is joining the OMIC R&D team. He will be evaluating the skills we need to conduct our current and future research to provide real value for metals manufacturing. Urmaze's passion for sharing his knowledge, his innovative mindset and his previous experience in setting up research labs will prove invaluable as we increase our ability to do professional grade research."
Prior to joining OMIC R&D, Naterwalla had been at Boeing since 2005, most recently as senior engineer and team leader of the Machining Solutions group at the Portland facility, part of the Fabrication Division of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and some military derivatives. Urmaze supported Boeing at the enterprise wide level in machining related testing, technical support, teaching and mentoring. Urmaze's interests have been in machining related technologies that aid in process optimization but in a repeatable, reliable manner. He has also been an active teacher at the Boeing Apprentice, Tech Prep and the Multiple Engineering Cooperative Program (MECOP), a university internship program, for many years. Prior to joining Boeing, Naterwalla held a leadership position at the Ingersoll Cutting Tool Company where he developed and managed a R&D center for 13 years.
Naterwalla has a master's of mechanical engineering (with industrial systems diploma) from The Ohio State University; and a master's of business administration through the Oregon Executive MBA Program.
