Ingersoll Machine Tools and Innse-Berardi Collaborate

Two long-established manufacturers of Camozzi Group, Ingersoll Machine Tools and Innse-Berardi, have partnered. "This new partnership brings together vast shared resources to make the Camozzi Machine Tools Division a global player in the supply of composite product manufacturing systems and advanced metalcutting machine tools for complex processing," said a spokesperson.

Ingersoll is a center of competence for additive manufacturing (AM), composites manufacturing and aerospace, while Innse-Berardi is a center of competence for the general mechanical engineering. Although each manufacturer will retain its distinct individual status and legal identity, the two partners will operate as one company. "The respective turn-key capabilities of Ingersoll and Innse-Berardi will mesh together to provide what the company refers to as a `team-key' capability," said the spokesperson.

There are five technological areas behind the Camozzi Machine Tools Division. "MasterPrint, produced by Ingersoll, is an AM solution and currently the largest 3D printer of thermoplastic parts. This solution offers fast, reliable and cost-effective performance, integrating a 5-axis milling head for finishing operations," said the spokesperson.

Mongoose is Ingersoll's Fiber Placement Machine. Its recent evolution, Mongoose Hybrid, features Automated Fiber Placement (AFP), Automated Tape Layer (ATL), trimming and inspection on the same machine platform to cover any composite manufacturing application.

The vertical machining solutions produced by both companies consist of the Atlas series (Innse-Berardi) and the MasterMill and MasterSpeed series (Ingersoll). "These families of gantry and fixed portal vertical milling machines, building on Ingersoll's and Innse-Berardi's global success in the field over the years, minimize risk and maximize performance," said the spokesperson.

The horizontal machining solutions produced by both companies consist of the Aries series (Innse-Berardi) and the PowerMill and SuperProfiler series (Ingersoll). These horizontal machining centers are high-power, high-torque machines for titanium and other hard alloys for heavy-duty applications.

"The use of modular designs and standard components help deliver additional advantages of economy and versatility, enabling Camozzi Machine Tools Division to configure a custom machine solution to meet virtually any specific customer application or production requirement at a lower cost," added the spokesperson. "These achievements involve emerging new solutions, such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Big Data and Cloud computing. To this end, Camozzi Machine Tools is working closely with sister company Camozzi Digital to develop state-of-the-art ICTs, like IBNet, a solution for end-to-end production managements and centralized control, and IBRM, a suite of software tools that protectively delivers real-time real-world plant monitoring and predictive plant maintenance."

Lodovico Camozzi, Chairman and CEO of the Camozzi Group, said, "As a natural evolution of the multidisciplinary approach of the Group, Camozzi Machine Tools Division is now poised to become the new global leader in the production and implementation of high-performance machinery. With 130 years of experience, 340 employees and a productive area of 157,000 sq. m., the two companies have a long history of success in developing cutting-edge applications. The division, through Ingersoll, is closely involved in work on NASA's Orion mission to Mars, producing large components for the Lockheed spacecraft, and with the National Science Foundation and AURA for DKIST, the biggest solar telescope in the world. There is also the international project ITER by Innse-Berardi, to develop a nuclear fusion reactor with Atlas Vision technology."
