Stand-Alone PTA Welding System for Hardfacing and Overlay Processes

Mavrix Welding Automation's PTA Welding System

Mavrix Welding Automation Inc. offers a stand-alone Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) system through integration of PTA components and an innovative control design, making the system available to customers without the requirement of procuring powder from the manufacturer.

The PTA system can function independently or can be integrated to any motion system. Mavrix manufactures the motion system for complete integration, providing the customer with a single machine solution for the PTA welding process.

The system permits the user to develop specifically timed sequencing of the gas, powder, pilot and main arc through a user-friendly human machine interface (HMI). A 7" color HMI/PLC is used for programming. Through the use of gas and water flow monitors, the system will auto shut down if needed-ensuring no damage to the torch.

Core components in the PTA welding system are sourced from suppliers, including Koolant Koolers, TBi Industries GmbH and Arc Specialties. The PTA welding system can be manufactured using most major brands of welding power supplies for the pilot and main arc.

"We took reliable components and made them smarter by integrating a PLC to monitor water temperature and gas flow to protect the high powder flow TBi PTA torch. We then made it flexible because we know that not all powders flow the same, and the timing to properly light the torch and properly shield it can change," said Glen Senger, Mavrix President. "The added intelligence enables the system to protect the torch-and shut down if necessary-in order to protect it."
