End of Production Quality Test Systems

The best way to ensure that a company is consistently meeting its customers' quality standards is to catch flaws before any product leaves the facility.

"From the largest OEM, Tier 1, Tier 2 supplier to the smallest manufacturer, product producers must have a process that allows them to come as close as possible to 100% quality. Leaving such things to subjective interpretation is a recipe for disaster," said a Signalysis spokesperson. "Quality inspection must be repeatable, consistent, metrics-based and above all objective. The solution: objective and automated quality inspection test systems.

"Specifically developed for each customer's unique applications-from automotive and agricultural to medical, appliances, power tools and more-Signalysis test systems replace subjectivity with objective measurements to help ensure that no defective products reach the customer," continued the spokesperson. "To ensure that each system meets the unique requirements and challenges of each of its customers, Signalysis employs a thorough, highly technical and systematic development approach."

The process begins by gathering customer specifications and a thorough understanding of any quality-related issues. The next step is to acquire baseline data on a sample of parts to help differentiate acceptable from non-acceptable results. Ideally, these test parts represent the full range for each failure mode, including those that do not meet quality standards, borderline parts and acceptable parts.

Signalysis test systems are programmed within the company's proprietary SigQC software. "Hardware and software are equal partners in creating the optimal solution," explained Signalysis President Neil Coleman. "The measurement hardware-data acquisition devices, sensors, triggers and timing-along with the proper setting of measurement parameters, drive the quality of the data. Having a robust and versatile software toolbox of functions and data management is the key to designing the perfect objective quality testing algorithm." The sequence of actions is implemented with drags, drops and line connections to specify the order. A database of acceptance tests with complete description of products, test set-ups and pass/fail specifications is available for automatic access.

As a product arrives at the test station, a bar code scanner or keyboard entry provides the information needed for automatic selection and initiation of the acceptance testing. Upon completion of the test, parts automatically receive a PASS/FAIL quality grade. In this way, defective parts are identified and pulled-never reaching the customer.
