Indexable Carbide Drill
September 1, 2019
Allied Machine & Engineering will highlight 4TEX, its newest indexable carbide drill, at WESTEC.
"The 4TEX IC drill is engineered to excel in challenging applications that include interrupted cuts or high temperature alloys and stainless steels. The drill is designed to outperform other standard drills by delivering higher penetration rates in light duty machines," said a company spokesperson.
"The unique design increases 4TEX's core strength to improve hole size and straightness. The flute space of the internal cutting edge side, where chips often cluster, is 1.6 times larger than typical IC drills, improving chip removal," continued the spokesperson. Two twisted coolant outlets, coupled with the additional flute space, increase penetration rates by enhancing coolant flow and generating enhanced chip evacuation in holemaking processes.
4TEX includes four-sided carbide insert geometries optimized for wear resistance. Inserts are available in geometry/coating combinations for all ISO materials including steel, stainless steel, high temperature alloys, non-ferrous and iron. The distinctive insert shape improves surface finish, hole quality and penetration rates while eliminating issues from chips winding around the tool.
The 4TEX product line is capable of making shallow 2xD, 3xD and 4xD holes in the 0.472" - 1.850" (12 mm - 47 mm) range. The IC drills are stocked in both imperial and metric shanks with standard fractional diameters, as well as every 1/2 mm diameter up to 26 mm and every 1 mm up to 47 mm offering fast delivery.
