Mazak offers the INTEGREX i-500ST, a full simultaneous 5-axis multi-tasking solution that utilizes two turning spindles in addition to a milling spindle (S) and lower turret (T). The new model expands upon the existing INTEGREX i Series to offer manufacturers more options for machining large, complex workpieces.
The machine's main horizontal turning spindle has a 10" chuck and is capable of C-axis indexing in 0.0001° increments. The main turning spindle and second spindle come standard with 40 HP (30 kW) integral spindle motors that provide a maximum spindle speed of 4,000 RPM. Customers may select one of four different spindle bore configurations depending on production requirements. A high-torque option is also available.
Additionally, a 30 HP (22 kW), 12,000 RPM milling integral motor spindle rotates in the B-axis throughout a range of +210° and -30° from vertical. A compact milling spindle head, in conjunction with a generous Y-axis stroke of 16.93" (430 mm), create an increased working capacity for larger applications. Optional milling spindle configurations include a 12,000 RPM, 50 HP (37 kW) high-output spindle, a 20,000 RPM, 32 HP (24 kW) high-speed spindle or a 10,000 RPM, 50 HP (37 kW) CAT 50 taper spindle.
For increased versatility, the INTEGREX i-500ST accommodates workpieces up to 27.56" (700 mm) in diameter and 61.97" (1,574 mm) or 102.13" (2,594 mm) in length for the 1500U or 2500U configurations, respectively. It is also able to meet the machining requirements of a wide variety of workpieces due to its tool magazine capacities, which range from the standard 36 tools up to the maximum of 110 CAT 40 taper tools or 108 CAT 50 taper tools.
The machine's lower drum turret carries nine tools and can work at either the main or second spindle with the same tool. This makes it possible for the turret to perform balanced cutting operations on one part working in tandem with the machine's vertical milling spindle.
There is also the option for milling capability with the INTEGREX i-500ST's lower turret. This operational flexibility allows manufacturers to process a workpiece's second operation with the machine's second spindle or to perform first and second operations simultaneously on one workpiece.
Further options for the INTEGREX i-500ST include a long drill stocker for the 2500U model, a variety of steady rests capable of supporting workpieces up to 16.14" (410 mm) in diameter and an NC tailstock with built-in center.
