COE Upgrades Press Feed Controls at Wellington Industries
September 1, 2019
A recent controls upgrade by COE Press Equipment at Wellington Industries is designed to improved production and open up capacity for the company. Within a weekend, COE retrofit its ServoMaster drive and controls package on a 20+ year old COE SESCO-branded servo feed paired with an 800-ton press stamping automotive components from a mild steel grade. The coil processing line is capable of handling coils up to 30,000-lbs. and 36" with a maximum material thickness capability of .250" at material widths of 18" or less.
Prior to the retrofit, Wellington was running the line more slowly in order to compensate for feed inconsistency that had developed over the years. This issue was also contributing to downtime and increased die repair due to pilot breakage within the dies.
The service team at COE suggested an upgrade to the company's ServoMaster Touch controller. "For older equipment, replacing the controller provides a relatively easy way of simplifying set-ups while increasing functionality to improve productivity," said a company spokesperson. In addition to improving productivity and quality, the new controllers are smaller and easier to use than older controls packages. Wellington has now been able to move work over to this press from other presses to alleviate its capacity issues.
