Data-Driven Manufacturing at Mazak Midwest Event
April 19, 2016Mazak will host its annual Discover More With Mazak Event at its Midwest Technology Center in Schaumburg, IL, April 19 – 21 from 9 AM to 6 PM. (CST). “The technology and education event will explore how today’s advanced metalworking technologies and data-driven production strategies contribute to productivity gains and improved quality management,” said a company spokesperson.
Mazak will run real-world part cutting demonstrations on 25 of its newest machine tools, many of which will feature ancillary equipment from its Value Inspired Partners.
Mazak application engineers will also be available during the demonstrations. “Attendees are encouraged to bring their toughest projects to the event so the Mazak team can help them develop highly optimized machining strategies,” said the spokesperson.
Several of the multi-axis machines on display will feature the company's new SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY process-performance platform, which comprises intuitive hardware, high-speed servo systems, enhanced ergonomics and optimized programming via MAZATROL SmoothX and SmoothG CNCs.
“The SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform also factors in automation and plant-wide connectivity as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) continues to transform the manufacturing industry through big data,” said the spokesperson. The platform supports the MTConnect open communications protocol and includes an NC Data Library for connecting machines to an Ethernet system.
The full 5-axis VCU-500A/5X vertical machining center (VMC), which now features SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY and the new MAZATROL SmoothX CNC; the QUICK TURN UNIVERSAL (QTU) 250MSY turning center with multitasking functionality and a GR100 gantry loader; and the small-footprint QUICK TURN PRIMOS 100 S turning center will be on display.
The MULTIPLEX 6200-II Y multitasking turning center will be featured alongside the GL100F gantry loader during the event. Featuring dual spindles, dual turrets, off-center machining and rotary tool capability, the MULTIPLEX 6200-II Y is built for single-setup, mid-size lot production and provides a standard machining diameter of 10.24".
“Denoting high-volume production, the HCN 5000-III horizontal machining center (HMC) will show event attendees the precision, reliability and value it brings to heavy, large parts production,” said the spokesperson. Now available with SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY, the machine features the latest MAZATROL SmoothG CNC with advanced programming and support functions. At the event, Mazak will pair the machine with its PALLETECH pre-engineered manufacturing system as part of an advanced manufacturing cell.
Mazak recently made PALLETECH a key automation component of the SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform via its new Smooth PMC software. The schedule operation software can predict the necessary tools and output per a shop’s production schedule. A variety of graphs within the software also allows for utilization analysis.
“Using its iSMART Factory as an example, Mazak will discuss the productivity and quality advantages of intelligence-based business models built around embedded connectivity, big data, advanced analytics and cybersecurity protection at the event,” said the spokesperson.
