The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) has endorsed Amatrol as its preferred eLearning source for cutting-edge multimedia training materials to support its new Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) Certification. Amatrol's multimedia based training will cover a wide array of maintenance skills for all duty areas of the certification including general maintenance operations, hydraulic systems, process control, electrical systems, mechatronics and more.
Amatrol's hands-on, skills-focused interactive technical training will help prepare much-needed future technicians for the new NIMS certification. "IMT needs have grown rapidly with too few skilled technicians to fill the jobs. While employers are facing a real-time skills gap, job vacancies and competitive wages, which can average up to $25.00/hour, mean that opportunities abound for motivated people looking to secure good jobs in a growing, technology-driven field," said NIMS Executive Director, Jim Wall. Amatrol's training materials also include an on-the-job training guide to aid businesses in developing the expertise maintenance technicians need.
Amatrol's Interactive eLearning
"Broad skill standards for IMT jobs did not exist prior to the work done by NIMS, Ivy Tech Community College and Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow (LIFT)," said a NIMS spokesperson. LIFT is a public-private partnership creating and implementing advanced lightweight materials manufacturing technologies. Skills standards refer to the major duties, knowledge and skills in which individuals must be proficient to meet performance requirements and expectations in the modern workplace. "By bringing both additional training and certification to the IMT area, NIMS and its partners are creating a clear pathway for employers to find qualified technicians for the ever-growing number of open jobs," said the spokesperson.
"NIMS, LIFT and Ivy Tech have truly moved us ahead in being able to fill the critical shortage of skilled technicians," said Paul Perkins, President and CEO of Amatrol. "By creating a multiple-credential, industrial maintenance certification, people will more quickly qualify for well-paying jobs and that helps everyone. We are grateful that Amatrol was selected as the eLearning provider for this amazing program. I think our learning approach, which emphasizes hands-on, job ready skills, is an ideal fit for this certification."
From a hiring perspective, the IMT certifications from NIMS provide job applicants the ability to clearly demonstrate that they are qualified for a position. Manufacturers will benefit not only from a better supply of qualified technicians, but they will also be able to more easily identify training needs. Manufacturers could require current employees to obtain certification as way to ensure consistency as well as provide career improvement for employees.
