Second Generation Vertical Turning Centers

Newland Machine Tools is a Canadian company with its branch and a manufacturing plant in Taiwan. The company began in 2008. "Using its engineering experience, knowledge and its own development in machine tool dynamics, vertical turning, horizontal boring mills and precision grinders, its vision has become a reality of producing high quality machines at an affordable price," said a company spokesperson.

With many vertical turning centers (VTC) in the field, Newland is introducing the Gen 2 version. The Gen 2 VTC starts with not only a heavier casting, but a properly designed casting that helps absorb harsh machining conditions and isolate harmonics frequently associated with vertical turning. The NVT series is able to machine taller and heavier parts due to the large and dynamically optimized machine structure and larger bearings which is an essential requirement to maintain cutting ability and accuracy at long distances from the table. The Newland machines can reach speeds up to 650 RPM. Newland utilizes a proprietary 3-speed transmission design offering consistent HP throughout the speed range, and providing low end torque for heavy stock removal. The Gen 2 machines use large diameter ballscrews and deliver over 11,250 lbs. of cutting force.

Newland supplies the new Gen 2 with high power on the live spindle. Offering speeds up to 3,000 RPM and 40 HP it is designed to meet demanding drilling and tapping needs. An optional two-speed gearbox can deliver upwards of 737 ft-lbs of torque which is similar to most 4" boring mills. Drilling holes up to 4" diameter are simply done with a tool change, not a machine change.

Newland Gen 2 series has a combination box/roller guideway. Heavy duty tool steel boxways are mated to hand scraped bronze gibs and saddles. Roller guides are utilized on the X-axis way system both for alignment and to alleviate stick slip due to the heavy weight of the ram and saddle.

Standard features on these machines are a 3-speed gearbox for the table, 3.15" diameter ballscrews, proprietary dual tool clamping system, automatic tool changers that will handle 200 lb. tools per pocket, combination guideways, linear scales, high torque milling spindle, Fanuc 31i or Siemens 840D controls, high voltage electrics and more. These features are standard issue on the Gen 2 machine.

Newland Machine Tools offers the Gen 2 VTC machines in three categories - single column up to 82" swing, twin column up to 133" swing and twin column hydrostatic table versions up to 200" swing.

Available options range from special chucking platforms, pallet changers, twin rams, grinding wheel dressers, increased horsepower, fixed rail and custom designed machines.
